LWAA Pop Warner Football Frequently Asked Questions How much will it cost? - Football registration is $95. Cheer is $45. Cheerleaders will have to purchase uniforms and accessories. What equipment do we need to buy for football? - You will need to buy cleats, athletic supporter and any specialty pads you want. LWAA supplies Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Jerseys, Pants, Mouthpieces and Girdles. I have my own helmet or mouthpiece. Can I use either? - The LWAA Board Of Directors has decided that all players must use helmets supplied by LWAA. This is to ensure that all helmets used are properly reconditioned and certified. - York County Pop Warner has ruled that all players in all member Associations must use the Riddell Scholastic Mouthpiece, model number 45791. LWAA supplies each child with 1, and extras can be purchased at a nominal fee. The only exception to this rule is if a special mouthpiece is prescribed by an Orthodontist, and a copy of the prescription must be supplied for the Associations records. When do Practices Start? - August 1st, LWAA also holds a multisport conditioning camp the last two weeks of July. Players who attend the camp get a definite advantage when practices start. When are practices, how long, and what nights? - Teams may practice 10 hours a week up until Labor Day. After Labor Day that changes to 6 hours a week. Some teams will practice 2.5 hours a night M-Th. Some will practice 2 hours a night M-F. It is up to your coach. Yes, full practices do continue after school starts. When do games start, and when do we play? - We will have scrimmage games scheduled sometime around the third week of August. They will be on a Saturday. Regular games begin the Saturday after Labor Day. Do not expect a schedule to be posted before Labor Day, it just doesn't happen. But do plan on playing every Saturday through the end of November. Our regular season runs through October, and Tournaments and Bowl games run until after Thanksgiving. Game times can vary week to week, our best advice is don't make plans for Saturdays. We registered, when are try outs? - There are no try outs in Pop Warner. There are no coach selections. Children are assigned to teams strictly by age, weight and order in which they registered. You will be notified of your team assignment prior to equipment distribution. I want a specific coach, can I get my child on his team? - Only if that coach is coaching the level that your child falls in to. Although Pop Warner allows for various ages to play at a certain level, those ages correlate to weights in our League software. All players are assigned to teams using the League software. Last year we were not able to get on a team, what do we need to do to make sure we do this year? - Register on time, if not early. Last year we had several children try to register late for both football and cheer. The deadline for cheer registration is June 26. Football can run later, but then you risk not having a spot for your child. Once we have our final registration numbers, we decide how many teams we are going to have. If those teams fill their rosters, we do not have a spot for newcomers. If you register on time, we can plan to have enough teams to accommodate everyone. |
